Engaging the Next Generation of Aviation Professionals

So who are we and what role do we play in identifying and supporting the aviation specialists of the future?

ENGAP UK supports the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) backed Next Generation of Aviation Professionals (NGAP) Programme. This is a platform to raise awareness and engage stakeholders on the impending shortages of personnel within the global aviation and education community. ENGAP UK is a Community Interest Company delivering the UK`s contribution to the international Project ENGAP; attracting, educating and retaining tomorrow`s national and international aviation professionals. It has been created to confront and deal with global aviation challenges specifically in the UK but moving forward in collaboration with ENGAP Canada and ENGAP USA. In January 2020, the most critical challenges facing our industry included: Environmental Sustainability; the impact of evolving flight `shaming` movements Personnel shortages due to the dramatic growth in aviation Keeping Ahead of Technology; rapid evolution making it difficult to keep pace with developments Then the global pandemic happened... COVID-19 disrupted the aviation sector on a global scale, stretching the industry to breaking point. But downturns have happened before, and a recovery will follow. This is not the time to pause innovation, but time to craft a sustainable future for the post-pandemic economic recovery. We are starting to forge links with stakeholders to fulfil our charitable objectives. ENGAP UK was founded by chairman Simon Witts, CEO of aviation advisory and consultancy organisation Aviation 360. Project ENGAP was founded by Canadian author, academic, and professor of aviation Suzanne Kearns, with support from Simon. Simon contributed to Professor Kearns` book Engaging the Next Generation of Aviation Professionals published in 2020 which formed the groundwork for their vision. ENGAP UK supports the search for future aviation professionals here in the UK, by first attracting them at school age, then ensuring they have access to vocational skills training to secure a job when they finish their education. The next step is to clone ENGAP UK in other countries.
